Montezuma is a small river town that established itself first with the advantages of river travel and then as a busy port on the famous Wabash-Erie Canal. After the decline of the canal, Montezuma was busy again with major North-South and East-West railroads that intersected in the town.

 

Now the railroads are gone but eight of the downtown's historic buildings from that bygone era live on as Machledt Furniture.
